About Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar

Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar (1901 – 1962), whose life straddled the final years of the Ottoman Empire and the early years of the Turkish Republic, is widely regarded as one of the giants of 20th century Turkish literature. In addition to his half a dozen novels (two of which, A Mind at Peace and The Time Regulation Institute, are available in English), he is also known for his poems, short stories, translations, and essays, including a travelogue of Turkey, Five Cities.
