About Leeladhar Jagoori

Leeladhar Jagoori (b. 1944-) is one of the leading Hindi poets in postcolonial India. His poetry has won the top literary and cultural awards in India, including the Sahitya Akademi Hindi Prize (1997),  comparable to the Pulitzer Prize; the Padma Shri (2004), the government’s top award to artists, which amounts to a lifetime achievement award; and the KK Birla Foundation’s Vyas Saman (2018), a relatively new but prestigious award from the private sector to honor excellence in art. He lives in the mountains of Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
