About Jesús Maya

Jesús Maya is a Mexican-Canadian poet whose work explores two main themes: urban life in San Agustín, Ecatepec, Mexico where he grew up, and the experience of migration including the crossing of borders, the separation of families and the vulnerabilities that ensue from these processes. His poetry has been published in three anthologies, most recently Changing the Face Of Canadian Literature: A Diverse Canadian Anthology, published by Guernica Editions in 2020. These poems are from his first book La Tolvanera (The Dustcloud), published by the Latin American Researchers of Ontario in 2012. His writings have been set to music, audio recorded, published in electronic media as well as newspapers and magazines. They also inspired a short film called Canciones.
