Lucy Fraser is Lecturer in Japanese at The University of Queensland. She researches fairy tale in Japanese and English, with particular interest in gender as well as animal-human interactions in retellings of folktales and traditional stories. She was awarded the inaugural Research Grant for NF-JLEP Fellows for her current project on “Owls in (Yamato) Japanese and Ainu Stories: Re-creating Animal-Human Relationships.” She has translated short stories by well-known authors such as Kawakami Hiromi and Hoshino Tomoyuki, and literary and cultural studies criticism by scholars such as Kan Satoko, Fujimoto Yukari, and Honda Masuko.
