About Charlotte Mandell

Charlotte Mandell has translated over forty books from French into English, including Mathias Énard’s Zone, a novel written as a single 517-page sentence, which was awarded a grant by the NEA in 2010; Jonathan Littell’s The Kindly Ones; and Maurice Blanchot’s book of essays, Faux Pas, which was awarded the Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for a Translation of a Scholarly Study of Literature for 2001-2002 by the Modern Language Association.  In May 2015, Bard College awarded her the Charles Flint Kellogg Award in Arts and Letters. She lives in the Hudson Valley with her husband, the poet Robert Kelly.
