Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43BC) was a Roman orator, statesman, and philosopher. Active during the late Republican period, he was a prominent senator, served as consul in 63BC, and was ultimately proscribed in 43BC by the Second Triumvirate. We are very fortunate to still have much of Cicero’s output, ranging from his political speeches (In Catilinam, Pro Milone), correspodence (Epistulae ad Familiares), and philosophical works (De Officiis, De Amicitia, De Republica).
