About Euripides

Euripides was a playwright in Athens in the 5th century BCE. It is estimated that he was born between 485 and 480 BCE and died in 406 BCE. Plays of his were first performed in the dramatic festival known as the City Dionysia in 455 BCE, and his last plays were produced after his death. Our Iphigenia combines two of the surviving plays of Euripides: Iphigenia at Aulis, performed posthumously in 405 BCE, and Iphigenia among the Taurians, first performed circa 414 BCE.
