A.J. Woodman taught Latin at universities in England and the USA for forty-nine years and in 2017 retired from the Basil L. Gildersleeve Professorship of Classics at the University of Virginia. He publishes on Latin poetry and historical writing of the late Republic and early Empire and is co-editor of The Cambridge Companion to Catullus (forthcoming).
