About Noemi Schneider

Born in 1982 in Munich, Noemi Schneider studied at the University of Television and Film Munich, specializing in documentary film directing and television journalism. Since 2008, she has worked as an editor and writer for Deutschlandradio Kultur in Berlin. She also writes short stories, articles, reports, and essays and has won several awards, including the Cicero University Essay Award (2008), the Zeit Campus Literary Competition (2012), and the Edit Essay Prize (2013); in 2012 she was shortlisted for the FM4 Text Competition. As her graduation project in 2012, she filmed Walaa! in Israel and Palestine, a story about an Israeli-Arab soccer player who overcomes the Middle East conflict through “play.” The experiences of the author in the Middle East are also the starting point of the book Kick it Walaa! Das Mädchen, das über Grenzen geht, published in May 2013 (Droemer-Knaur Verlag). Her debut novel, Das wissen wir schon, appeared in January 2017 (Hanser Verlag Berlin). In July 2017, Schneider read at the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize at the Festival of German Language Literature.
