About Deborah Smith

Deborah Smith is a British translator of Korean literature, mainly by Bae Suah and Han Kang. In 2015 she founded Tilted Axis, a nonprofit press publishing contemporary Asian writing. Her translation of Han Kang's The Vegetarian won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize. She is the spring 2018 Translator in Residence at the University of Iowa, where she is writing a book-length essay on translation, In( )fidelity, forthcoming from Peninsula Press. Deborah tweets as @londonkoreanist, but lives in Sheffield.
