Derick Mattern holds an MFA in poetry from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Winner of the British Centre for Literary Translation's 2012 Young Translators’ Prize, his translations of Ergülen’s poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Modern Poetry in Translation, Asymptote, Copper Nickel, and elsewhere. He lived and worked in Istanbul from 2008 to 2013.
