About Jia Self

Jia Self received her BA in Classical Studies from Knox College in 2023. She wrote her senior thesis, “Catullus and Translation: Bridging the Gap Between Literary Worlds,” on the Roman literary tradition and different modes of translation. As part of her thesis, Jia translated Catullus 64 into an in-class, metaphrase, and paraphrase translation to explore how translations bridge the cultural and temporal gaps between a primary text and its reader. In fall 2024, Jia will pursue an MA in Classics from the University of Kansas.
