About Jamie Banks

Jamie Banks is a fourth-year PhD student at the CUNY Graduate Center and a former K-12 language teacher. They are focused on the multilingual writings, especially letters, of scientists in Early Modern Europe in particular and developing methods for studying the sprawling corpora of post-classical Latin in general. They are an avid spoken Latinist and take a long view of what “Latin literature” means, preferring its 2,000+ year history to the tightly restricted “classical” canon. Aside from translating ancient languages, they also enjoy composing original poetry in those and other languages.
