About Cesare Pavese

Cesare Pavese (9 September 1908 – 27 August 1950) was an Italian novelist, poet, short story writer, translator, literary critic, and essayist. For antifascist activities, Pavese was sent to Calabria for internal exile. He returned to Turin after the war, where he worked as an editor for Einaudi. It wasn’t until later in life that he turned his hand to writing fiction. In 1950, two months after winning the Premio Strega , Italy’s most prestigious literary award, he took his own life.
