About Dezső Szomory

Born Mór Weisz in 1869, Dezső Szomory was a Hungarian journalist, novelist, and playwright. He was raised in the Jewish district of Pest, and in 1890 fled to Paris, where he remained for seventeen years. His time there was the basis for his most celebrated work, The Paris Novel. He died in 1944 at the age of 75, several months before the liberation of Budapest.
